Latino Construction Program Graduation

July 12, 2018

On Friday, July 13th the Spanish American Committee will hold the first graduation ceremony for its Latino Construction Program. The Latino Construction Program was created as a product of the Metro Health transformation in Cleveland’s W.25th and Clark area and was established in partnership with the MetroHealth team, Turner Construction Company, and the Cleveland Building Trades and funded through generous contributions from the KeyBank Foundation, Turner Construction Company, and the Higley Fund.

This 6-week program follows a curriculum that incorporates English language instruction with lessons in safety, unions, opportunities in the trades, among others. Students are also provided with one-on-one job counseling and connected to local unions for pre-apprentice and apprenticeship opportunities. So far, the Latino Construction Program at the Spanish American Committee has placed 30 individuals with local unions making between $14.50 and $20 hourly. The individuals who are already working have collectively earned over $270,000.

The graduation ceremony for the first cohort of graduates from the Latino Construction Program will be held on Friday, July 13that 4407 Lorain Ave. The ceremony will commence at 5:30 pm. Families, friends, and Spanish American Committee partners will be in attendance to celebrate the accomplishments of our 12 graduates.
